Who are Quad 8?
Quad 8 or Quad Eight? were at one time one of the biggest high end full format console manufacturers in the USA around the 1960’s -1970’s. They had engineers on their side from the legendary Electrodyne.
Quad eight consoles were in some of the most high end studios across the USA but quite a few were in Hollywood. They had a good business & name in the dubbing & movie side of things. Well known for having a big thick sound.
Sadly for Quad 8 fans, API over took them in the market… at least for recording studios.
Ask in the right places & people will rave about their pre amps being as good as Neve’s & API’s, some might even say better.
Quad 8 eventually became quite unknown among engineers however recently their name has become
Quad 8 AM10 DOA
The AM10 is a discrete opamp developed by quod eight for their consoles.
Like all DOA it can add some discrete analog goodness in the right circuit.
This particular layout was made for the API 2520/990 format so easy to use nowadays.
